"after everything, flowers"

mildly wild & Friends
Luna Installation

The theme for Revelstoke Arts' Luna installation is "Art as resistance".

As nature lovers, flower growers and people who care about others and our planet. We felt compelled to create something for Luna via a medium that we feel connected to and runs in the veins of Revelstoke- Nature as an act of Resistance.

Specifically flowers as an act of resistance.

ABOUT THE INSTALLATION

A LUNA 2026 installation by Mildly Wild Flowers and Revelstoke growers

In a world that can feel rigid, extractive and exhausting, tending to living things is its own quiet act of defiance. This installation places locally grown flowers from Revelstoke growers into the kinds of spaces flowers aren't supposed to be: reclaimed structures, forgotten surfaces, and one very special old truck.

The forest:
Moss, ferns, horsetail and birch. Every layer here has been placed with intention. The design takes its cues from our local forests, where resistance looks like growing, living and staying connected, standing strong together because of diversity, not in spite of it. Everything gathered from the forest will be returned to it once LUNA is over.

The flowers:
Flowers bring the beauty, the light and the emotion. They say the things we sometimes can't. When the world feels a little much, cruel or rigid, flowers keep growing, and we find that quietly radical. Beauty isn't frivolous. It's persistent, collaborative and stubbornly hopeful. Choosing colour, softness and care in difficult times is its own form of resistance.

The truck:
Several twists of fate brought this truck here tonight. It's been cruising around Revelstoke for decades, likely down Mackenzie Avenue back in the day, then up logging roads hauling firewood to keep homes warm through long, grey, deep-snow winters. More recently it lived at Tammen Mökki, where many of these flowers are grown. It has since found a new home with Liam, who, after being approached at the garden centre, kindly agreed to let it be part of this piece.

We love that it's perfectly rusted and slowly being reclaimed by nature. And we especially love that beneath all the moss and flowers, it's red and white. Elbows up.

Sit a while:
This is a sit spot. We invite you to pause here and consider: what does an act of resistance look like to you?

Made together:
This work is collaborative in every sense. It exists because multiple growers chose to share what they grew, and we believe that kind of generosity (of time, of soil, of blooms) is part of what resilience looks like too.

Where the flowers go next:
At the end of the night, these flowers will be gifted to LUNA volunteers and staff, with the remainder donated to a local farm stand raising funds for Palestine!

WHO ARE mILDLY wild flowers and friends?

It takes a town
In true Revelstoke fashion, this installation wouldn't exist without the community coming together. From saving milk jugs and trusting strangers with their pride-and-joy trucks, to frolicking through fields, gardens, forests and the streets of Revelstoke, it's the wonderful people here who brought this project together and gave it life.

Jocelyn has been the chief project manager of this creation. It wouldn't feel nearly as powerful, dreamy or hopeful without her creativity, imagination, time and thoughtfulness in every design detail.

Jess sparked the idea and invited people to lend their time, trucks, skills, labour and kindness to be part of the story. She grew the flowers and helped shape the planning and creative layout.
